Girl of Today-Just Like You
The Just Like You collection from American Girl (formerly called American Girl of Today) celebrates girls of today and each girl's unique interests and talents. The dolls have soft cloth bodies and a head and limbs made from sturdy vinyl. Each doll's eyes open and close and her head can turn from side to side. She wears contemporary clothing and is available in a diverse selection of skin tones, hair colors, and eye colors. You're nearly guaranteed to find one that looks just like you!
Special Accessories
The huge collection of outfits, accessories, and furniture for the Just Like You dolls make the playtime possibilities almost endless. Girls can make-believe that their dolls are doing the same activities they like to do, or things they wish they could do. Your Just Like You doll can be a soccer star, a prima ballerina, a karate champ...or all of these. She has many adorable outfits for school, sleepovers, special occasions, and "just hanging out." She even has special Halloween costumes, such as a mermaid or hula girl.
Just Like You dolls are also the same size as American Girl's historical dolls and Girls of the Year dolls, so you can mix and match clothing and accessories between all three collections. If the special little girl in your life likes to play dress-up and has her own wardrobe of historical outfits, you can buy historical clothing for her doll to match her.
There are many fun accessories for the Just Like You dolls as well. For instance, there's a gardening set for growing perfect pretend flowers, an art supply set complete with easel, and several different musical instruments, such as a guitar or baby grand piano. The piano even plays classical music!
With furniture for the Just Like You doll, you can furnish much more than your doll's pretend bedroom. The Just Like You collection includes a line of "Advice and Activity" books that talk about many different aspects of both being a girl and growing up. These books encourage girls in many ways; their different categories include "Be Your Best," "Body and Mind," "Do It Yourself," "Just for Fun," and "Memories." The most popular of these books seems to be "The Care and Keeping Of You: The Body Book for Girls." This book is written to help guide girls through puberty and know how and why their bodies are changing.
Write Your Doll's Story
When the Just Like You dolls were first introduced, each doll came with a blank book so girls could create a character for their doll and write all about her. These books are no longer included with the dolls, but you can still pick your doll's name and write her an interesting story. Her story can be whatever you want it to: adventurous, mysterious, or funny. You can even put events from your own life in it, because after all, she's Just Like You!
