If you like reading the American Girl historical books, you'll love seeing the characters come to life in their movies! Currently, there are three American Girl movies available on DVD. The first, Samantha: An American Girl Holiday, shows Samantha Parkington's beautiful world of Mount Bedford, New York, during the post-Victorian era. Even though her family is wealthy, she is always caring about people who are less fortunate than herself. When Samantha's best friend Nellie is sent to an orphanage, Samantha tries with all her might to find a way to get her out. In the second film, Felicity: An American Girl Adventure, you can see Felicity Merriman's love of horses, and how she befriends a special one named Penny. Her family is torn between the two sides that Americans must take as the Revolutionary War is about to begin, but they never let their differences erase their love for each other. The third film, Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front, tells what life was like during another war that affected many American families: World War II. Molly McIntyre struggles with adjusting to life without her father when he becomes an Army medic, and learns how to do her own part to aid the war effort. Sometimes it can be challenging, but at other times it's quite fun, such as when Molly hopes to have the part of "Miss Victory" in her tap dance class's performance at a war rally. All of the American Girl films are shot in beautiful locations and are wonderfully cast, with actresses that look very much like the main characters in the books.

In July of 2008, the first American Girl movie to be shown in theaters, Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, was released. It will be coming to DVD in October of 2008, and shows how Kit Kittredge doesn't let the darkness of the Great Depression spoil her dreams of becoming a newspaper reporter.
