Kit (1934)
Kit Kittredge is the seventh doll to be added to American Girl's historical line. She has short blonde hair, ocean-blue eyes that open and close, adorable freckles, and a bright smile. Kit has a soft cloth body with vinyl limbs and head. Her arms and legs are posable with sturdy ball joints, and her head can turn from side to side. Kit wears a lavender sweater set (short-sleeved sweater and matching cardigan), a pleated floral skirt, bloomers (historical underwear) and white sandals. Her accessory set includes a white hat with a green ribbon, crocheted purse, handkerchief, replica buffalo nickel, and a necklace with a tiny compass for a pendant.
You can purchase many outfits designed just for Kit, as well as charming accessories and furniture patterned after items from the 1930s. Some of her outfits are her tomboy-like blue bib overalls with striped shirt, her green calico birthday dress, and her adorable beach pajamas that make her look like a sailor! The pajama shirt even has nautical flags on the pocket that say "I love you" in flag-code. One of her most special accessories is her very own old-fashioned typewriter. There's also her wooden scooter, book bag with school supplies, and her pet basset hound, Grace. Kit's furniture collection has items like a green metal dinette set, roll-top desk with swivel chair, and a day bed. The bed has a green metal frame with flowers painted on the headboard and footboard, and the mattress can fold out to hold both Kit and her best friend Ruthie!

Kit's collection includes another doll of the same size that represents her best friend, Ruthie Smithens. Ruthie is the newest Best Friend doll, and has her own outfits and accessories. She even has her very own book, Really Truly Ruthie, and playtime can be more fun with both dolls together.

Kit is a smart and sweet girl growing up in Cincinnati during the Great Depression. She is forced to grow up a little too quickly when her father loses his business. Her family has to work together with other families to keep a roof over all their heads and food on the table. Kit learns how to be resourceful and make the most of unpleasant situations. She also discovers ways to get along better with others, even her grouchy Uncle Hendrick, and how to make a difference to people around her. Each book has a "Looking Back" section at the end, with historical information about how people lived during Kit's time.
