Ivy (1974)
Ivy Ling is Julie Albright's best friend. She and Julie are the first "friends" dolls in the American Girl historical line to be introduced at the same time, and the two dolls are fun to play with together! Ivy has straight black hair that falls just past her shoulders, mocha-brown eyes that open and close, and a friendly smile. Ivy's head and limbs are made of vinyl, and her body is soft cloth. Her arms and legs are posable and her head can turn from side to side. She wears a pink flowered cowl-neck blouse, green twill pants, and tan cowboy boots. Ivy is also one of the few American Girl dolls who can wear earrings!
You can purchase other special things for Ivy, such as her beautiful red brocade Chinese New Year dress or her accessory set. Her accessories include a purple beret, dangle earrings, a make-believe Chinese coin, and an adorable purse that looks like it was made out of a pair of old blue jeans! And since she's the same size as Julie, she can wear Julie's clothes as well as her own.
Read About Ivy's World
You can read all about Ivy and her life and family in her book, Good Luck, Ivy. She is disappointed when she finds out that her big gymnastics tournament is on the same day as her family reunion, and she struggles with the decision over which event to attend. She has to find a solution that will make everyone happy and be approved by her parents. This is the only book written from Ivy's viewpoint, but she is also a prominent character in Julie's book series. Ivy and Julie have been best friends forever, but when Julie moves away because of her parents' divorce, she and Ivy have to make an effort to stay in touch. They support each other through difficult times, and enjoy many good times together as well. Each book about Julie and Ivy has a "Looking Back" section at the end, which gives real historical information about life in the 1970s.
