Samantha: An American Girl Holiday
In Samantha's movie, the first American Girl film made, you can see lively, intelligent Samantha Parkington as she grows up in Mount Bedford, New York in the early 1900s. Since her parents died, the rest of her family has done their best to take good care of her. Samantha has an old-fashioned grandmother, a fun-loving uncle, and a progressive aunt who loves new ideas. Samantha's world is full of elegant clothing, elaborate dinners, and the excitement of hearing about all kinds of new inventions.Samantha finds a best friend in Nellie, the girl who moves in next door to be a servant to Samantha's neighbors. Even though the two girls have very different lives, they never let that get in the way of their friendship. One day, Samantha receives a terrible message that Nellie's father has died, and she has been sent to live in an orphanage. When Samantha visits Nellie there, she sees the awful conditions that Nellie and her sisters live in, and determines to find a way to get them out. She seeks help from her Uncle Gard and Aunt Cornelia to find the girls a new home.
Samantha's movie tells a wonderful, entertaining story as well as sharing the message of caring for other people. Since the story ends on Christmas Day, this movie is especially fun to watch during the holidays. Several of the stories from Samantha's books, which were written as companion items for the Samantha and Nellie dolls, are told in the film. The main characters, Samantha Parkington and Nellie O'Malley, are played by AnnaSophia Robb and Kelsey Lewis. Other members of the cast include Mia Farrow as Samantha's grandmother, Jordan Bridges as Uncle Gard, and Rebecca Mader as Aunt Cornelia.
