Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front
Molly's movie is the American Girl company's third film, and was made in 2006. The plot and characters were based on stories in the book series created as companion items for the Molly and Emily dolls.Molly McIntyre's story takes place during World War II, a war that affected most, if not all, Americans---even children like Molly. She is devastated when she learns her father has decided to give medical service to wounded soldiers in Europe, and she's also terrified that he'll be hurt or killed himself. To make matters more difficult for her family, her mother has taken a job---something quite uncommon for married women in the 1940s---and her stuffy neighbor is in charge of watching Molly and her siblings while Mom is at work. Even Molly's brother and sister don't seem to understand how she feels!
Molly hates all the changes her family has gone through, and is full of self-pity---until Mom agrees to take in an English girl named Emily who was sent to America to escape the bombings in London. Molly realizes that compared to Emily, maybe she doesn't have it so bad after all, and the two girls' friendship helps them survive as they wait for the war to be over and for Molly's father to come home.
The two main roles of Molly McIntyre and Emily Bennett are played by Maya Ritter and Tory Green, respectively. Other characters include Molly Ringwald as Mrs. Helen McIntyre; David Aaron Baker as Molly's father, Dr. James McIntyre; Genevieve Farrell and Andrew Chalmers as Molly's sister and brother, Jill and Ricky; Samantha Wilson and Hannah Fleming as Molly's best friends, Linda and Susan; and Sarah Manninen as the girls' teacher, Miss Campbell.
